Senior Anne Waldo Leads Riding; Earns Individual National Title

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Action on day one at the 2015 IHSA National Championships, hosted by the Eastern States Exposition (The Big E), has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College equestrian team saw a number of solid efforts. Highlighting today's action was an outstanding finish from senior Anne Waldo, who won the National title in individual competition.

Waldo (White Lake, Mich./International Academy) captured the National Championship title in the Individual Intermediate Equitation Over Fences. After the initial opening show in the class, Waldo was one of five riders called back to demonstrate further skill for the judges. Waldo was outstanding in the final call back, rising from fifth place to champion after a successful demonstration. She outpaced 15 other riders in her group to earn the title. Also in action in the same class was senior Jess Murray (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), who earned Honorable Mention honors with an 11th-place finish.

In the team competition, three events were held on the opening day of action for the Collegiate Cup. The Lyons saw first year Anna Rzchowski (Madison, Wisc./West) earn the 10th-place ribbon in Novice Equitation Over Fences.

Also in action on Thursday was first years Mollie Kowalchik (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and Mika McKinney (Montville, Maine/Belfast Area) and senior Heather Zadra (Laguna Hills, Calif./Sage Hill School)

Centenary currently leads the field after day one with 13 points, while Savannah College of Art and Design is close behind with 11 points. Stanford rounds out the top three with 10 points.
