Jennifer Wilda has been the stable manager of the Mount
Holyoke Equestrian Center since 2005. She manages a facility that
is home to 65 horses, a combination of student boarders and school
horses. The school horses are her primary focus, and she oversees
all of their care on a day-to-day basis and for the long term.
Growing up, Wilda was an active member in 4-H clubs, competing
horses, dogs and rabbits. She captured many 4-H state titles in
horse bowl, horse judging and oral presentations. At this time
Wilda is involved in 4-H as a parent. Her two children, Christopher
and Kasandra, are active members in a horse club. Wilda enjoys
seeing her children pursue the same interests as her own.
One of Wilda’s passions is raising, training and competing
Morgan horses. She was the New England Morgan Horse
Association’s Outstanding Youth in 1984. In 2002, Wilda
started to train her Morgan horse to drive and competed for several
years in carriage driving competitions. She had tremendous success
with her horse, but as time went on at Mount Holyoke, it became
hard to stay focused on driving with all the jumping going on
around her. She ended up selling her driving horse and started to
jump. Wilda is now enjoying bringing students along to show in the
hunter and jumper rings.
In 2008, Wilda made history as the advisor and head coach of the College's newly formed western equitation team. Mount Holyoke, along with two other Zone 1 schools are the first ever western/stock-seat teams in the area. Western in Zone 1 is now four schools strong and looking forward to growing in the future.
