Micah Dion joined the Lyons athletic training staff in August of 2016.

Dion joins Mount Holyoke College after spending the last year as the head athletic trainer for the Avella Area School District. During his tenure, Dion provided daily care for a wide array of varsity sports across the varsity, junior varsity and elementary athletic level. He supervised budgetary needs and supplies for the athletic training room, while also keeping daily treatment logs and student-athlete medical records up-to-date.

Dion also served as a graduate assistant in athletic training at the California University of Pennsylvania where he was responsible for the coverage of multiple sports, including  men’s club rugby, football and men’s and women’s hockey. Dion also provided athletic training coverage for the National United Wrestling Association during the 2016 youth national championships.

Prior to his time at California University of Pennsylvania, Dion received his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training at Plymouth State University. While there, he was a student assistant for both the Panthers athletic training department, as well as at the New Hampton School, helping in the coverage of football, field hockey, soccer, hockey, skiing, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, softball and club rugby. Among his responsibilities included injury prevention and risk management, orthopedic & clinical examination and diagnosis, calculation of exposure rates and incidence of injury, and management of daily treatments and rehabilitations.

Dion, who has a wide variety of leadership opportunities to his credit, served as a student teacher for an introduction athletic training course. Additionally, he was the Plymouth State University Club Officer President, the coordinator for student attendance at professional conferences, and was a volunteer for Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness. Dion was also a member of the Athletic Training Club where he coordinated and led monthly meetings.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), as well as the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association, Dion has earned numerous awards. Among them are the Outstanding Senior Athletic Trainer Student award, the Clinical Service Award, and the Dr. Julie N. Bernier Scholarship. He was also a member of the Dean’s list and President’s list. Dion graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Dion earned his Master of Science from California University of Pennsylvania in May of 2016. He also received his Bachelor of Science from Plymouth State University in May of 2015 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
