SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - This week's Lyon of the Week is coming to you from a different format as we write about the outstanding efforts of our four student-athlete honorees this week. From the Lyons squash team, this week's honorees are senior captain Ragini Ghose and classmate Nadindhi Udangawa, along with rookies Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige and Maeve Watts-Roy. The foursome were a key part of the squad's 2-2 mark last week, with each of them going 3-1 in action against #2 Trinity (L, 9-0), Northeastern (W, 9-0), #24 St. Lawrence (W, 8-1) and #22 Hamilton (L, 5-4).

Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School), who plays from the #3 spot on the ladder, shouldered her only loss on the week to the second-ranked Bantams of Trinity College. She posted a solid win over Northeastern's Belkis Montas on Saturday, before earning back-to-back wins over #24 St. Lawrence's Starnisha Ramsey, battling from behind for a 6-11, 11-2, 11-0, 11-6 win, followed by a 11-7, 11-5, 14-12 victory against #22 Hamilton's Megan Grip. The effort from last week moved Ghose to a 7-1 mark this season.

Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School), the second-ranked player on the ladder, also suffered her only defeat to Trinity last week. She notched a solid win against the Huskies' Sophie Langlois, before earning an 11-9, 11-3, 11-6 win over the Saints' Alexandra Infante to help lift the Lyons to their first win over St. Lawrence since the 2011-12 season. Udangawa then grinded out a key victory over Continentals player Caitlin Stern, battling from behind for an 11-13, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6. Through eight matches played, Udangawa owns a 7-1 overall record.

Kalahe Arachchige (Panadura, Sri Lanka) has been outstanding for the Lyons in her rookie campaign, playing from the top of the ladder. Following a tough loss to #2 Trinity, she bounced back with a dominant victory against Northeastern before helping MHC to victory over the Saints as she bested Makayla Kelley, 11-4, 11-3, 11-6. Additionally, she picked up a critical win against the Continentals, earning the Lyons fourth point with a commanding 11-3, 11-4, 11-0 win against Charlotte Zonis. Kalahe Arachchige is also 7-1 this season.

Watts-Roy (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual), who has primarily played at the fourth spot this season, is one of only two players to have played in all nine matches this season. After her first loss of the season against Trinity, she responded with a solid 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 win against Northeastern's Molly Blair. Her efforts helped the Lyons best the Saints as she defeated Gabrielle Ahrens in three, followed by a critical point versus Hamilton as she grinded out an 11-6, 11-4, 1-11, 11-9 win over Liesl Guenther.

The Lyons were also paced by several other strong efforts on the week as senior captain Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet), along with sophomores Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) and Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science) all went 2-2 on the week. Sophomore Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) posted a 2-1 mark, her only loss coming against Hamilton.

Through nine matches this season, the Lyons squad has powered their way to a 7-2 mark with their only losses coming to #2 Trinity and #22 Hamilton. Below is the complete breakdown of the team's efforts this season, which can also be found by clicking HERE.
