SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its All-Sportsmanship Team honors for the 2018 spring semester and four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes have been honored. The sports recognized for the spring included lacrosse, tennis, rowing and track & field. 

The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.

Earning recognition from lacrosse was senior captain and defender Julia Lankin (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), who started all 12 games she played in before a season-ending injury in mid-April. The anchor of the defensive line, Lankin ranked second on the squad in draw controls, capturing 40 during the season. That mark was also a top-20 best in the NEWMAC, ranking 17th overall. She was also fifth on the team with 13 caused turnovers and finished tied for fourth with 23 ground balls. Her draw control numbers and caused turnovers also marked the most in a single season for her career as the Lyons caused the fourth most turnovers against opponents (173) and allowed the seventh fewest goals amongst NEWMAC programs.

During her career, Lankin appeared in 58 games, including 56 as a starter. In addition to notching an assist, she scooped up 99 ground balls, won 128 draw controls and posted 38 caused turnovers. Among the program's all-time best, she ranks sixth in draw controls in a career. A two-sport student-athlete who was also a member of the Lyons field hockey team, Lankin was a three-time honoree on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team in her career, also earning MHC Scholar-Athlete honors year's end.

The Lyons tennis team saw junior Clara Wang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) after a solid season playing across multiple spots in singles action. She posted an 6-11 overall mark from singles, including a 4-6 mark at six, along with a 2-1 record at three. She went 2-5 during conference play. In doubles action, Wang went 2-1 at three with partner Joy Maran (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep). She was also 1-1 with classmate Madison Rosen (Portland, Ore./Grant) and 1-2 with senior captain Katherine Schumacher (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) - all from three.

Over the past three seasons, Wang has been a consistent presence for the Lyons, helping the team to the NEWMAC Tournament each year. She owns a 16-18 record in singles action, going 24-17 in her career thus far in doubles. The Lyons finished 8-11 this season, advancing into the conference playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.

Rowing saw sophomore Mira Rosenkotz (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island) garner sportsmanship honors. Rosenkotz played a versatile role for the Lyons in 2017-18, competing in several different boats throughout the year, including the varsity four, varsity eight and second varsity eight.

Rosenkotz's efforts as the bow of the varsity eight helped the crew earn NEWMAC Boat of the Week honors on April 9, following a weekend in which MHC posted a solid effort against four of the top-teams in the nation - top-ranked Bates being one of those. She also helped the varsity eight to fourth at the Seven Sisters Championship and sixth at NEWMAC's. Rosenkotz will race for the Lyons on Friday at the National Invitational Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond.

Rounding out this year's sportsmanship honors was senior Gargi Mishra (Maharashtra, India/The Bishop's School) a distance runner on the Lyons track & field team. Throughout the 2018 season, she posted several strong finishes, including 10th overall in the 3,000 meter race at the Springfield Pride Classic in mid-April. Mishra also took 17th in the 1,500-meters during MHC's own Spring Fling Invitational.

Mishra participated in four meets during the outdoor season. She was also a member of the Lyons cross country team during her first two seasons at Mount Holyoke, competing in seven races during the 2015 campaign.
