Graphic naming Lyons basketball player, Raquel Fitzpatrick the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for December 18, 2017.

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners and Mount Holyoke College basketball student-athlete Raquel Fitzpatrick has been recognized. The first year was tabbed as the co-Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting her second straight double-double in the Lyons lone game last week.

A native of Providence, R.I., Fitzpatrick continued to lead the charge for her squad last week, posting her second straight double-double, while finishing just three assists shy of a triple-double. In a tough 69-55 loss to the University of Saint Joseph (CT), she notched 14 points with 11 rebounds. Fitzpatrick added a game-best seven assists, while also recording a team-high two steals.

Through nine games this season - eight of which came as a starter - Fitzpatrick leads the team in several categories, including assists per game (2.2) and steals per game (2.0). She also ranks second on the team in scoring, posting a 7.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest. She has had a number of solid efforts this season, her brightest achievement thus far coming on December 9th. In that tough loss to Mount Ida, Fitzpatrick posted 13 points and 10 rebounds with six assists and six steals - finishing just four shy in both categories of achieving a quadruple-double.

The former Providence Country Day School standout ranks fourth among NEWMAC conference players in free throws made (9-of-13) and is ninth in the same category overall (21-of-42).

Mount Holyoke (0-9; 0-3 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 3rd when it travels to Coast Guard for a 7pm conference tilt. The Lyons will wrap-up the week on the 6th with a 1pm match at Babson.
