Equestrian Center Community Riding Program

Riding Community Riding Lessons for experienced riders meet when the College schedule allows - typically over winter break and then early May through August.  IEA Team lessons for high school aged riders are during the fall and spring semesters as well and meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Lessons are scheduled each week via email or via a group app (IEA).

Community riding group lessons for established and/or experienced riders are $55 for approx. 1 hour.  Private lessons are either $80 or are scheduled as a “private and a half” for $120 for new riders.   Last minute cancellations inside 24 hours will be charged the full lesson rate.

All riders will sign a release of liability form.  Those under 18 must have parental/guardian consent.

Instruction is available in hunt seat (on the flat and over fences) or dressage.  Western lessons are available on a more limited basis and by special arrangement.

Riders for group lessons must be at least 10 years old and competent at the walk, trot and beginning canter. At this time, beginner level lessons are by private appointment only and are available on a limited basis at only certain times of the year as the schedule permits.

Riders should arrive ½ hour before their assigned lesson time to groom and tack up and will be expected to untack and cool out their horse properly after their lesson

Established riders may enjoy hacking and schooling opportunities outside of lessons during school breaks.  Riders may be asked to help set jumps, assist with special events and lend assistance in the stables as directed.

Riders are to wear proper riding attire for community/IEA lessons including an ASTM-SEI approved helmet, breeches, tall boots or paddock boots with half chaps, tucked in shirt or neat similar, belt and gloves. No tanktops or flip flops when riding or in the stable area.

Showing/clinic/special event opportunities:  Some special opportunities may be available.  Communication will be made through the Riding Program Manager to the Community/IEA Lesson Group.

IEA TEAM RIDERS :  Riders of High School and Junior High School age who would like to ride on the Mount Holyoke IEA Team should contact the team coach, Laura Peteros. All members of the Mount Holyoke IEA Team will practice with the team coach on a regular basis and will pay for a season’s worth of lessons in three installments. Horse shows and special events take place throughout the school year for an additional cost.
