Minichiello Garners Recognition After Solid Week

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Lyon of the Week has been announced this week's honor goes to senior Rose Minichiello for her efforts in helping the Lyons squash team last weekend. Additionally, Minichiello was honored as the College Squash Association (CSA) Harrow Sports Player of the Week.

Minichiello, who hails from Collinsville, Conn., posted a 2-1 record on Saturday as the Lyons finished runner-up at the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship at Vassar. In a tight battle against the host Brewers in the final match of the day, Minichiello bested Emma Glickman by an 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 margin to grab MHC's fifth and deciding point. The Lyons defeated Vassar, 5-4 to earn second overall at the tournament.

The former Canton High School standout also posted an 11-2, 11-1, 11-5 win over Caroline Previte as MHC bested Smith by a 9-0 margin during the middle match.

On the season, Minichiello is currently 8-13 overall. She owns a 7-11 record from the seventh position and is also 1-1 at eight. Among her top efforts of the season was a 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6) victory over Connecticut College's Caroline Lippincott and a 3-2 (7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8) win against Gabi Salomon from Tufts University.

The Lyons return to action on February 19 when they travel to Yale University to compete in the 2016 CSA National Team Championships. Action runs through Sunday, February 21.
