Kilburn Garners Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Lacrosse senior captain and midfielder Kirsten Kilburn has been named the Lyon of the Week for the period ending March 8. Kilburn helped the Lyons rebound from a tough opening loss on the season to go 2-0 over last week's action.

A native of North Branford, Conn., Kilburn recorded six goals on 15 shots (13 on goal), while boasting team-high figures in ground balls (11), draw controls (16) and caused turnovers (7). She also committed just four turnovers in the two games last week.

In a 15-8 win against Westfield State, Kilburn notched four goals on nine shots (8 on goal). She added three ground balls, eight draw controls and a caused turnover, while also going 1-of-1 from the free position. She then recorded two tallies on six shots (5 on goal) with eight ground balls, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers.

Through the opening three games of the season, the former North Branford High School standout is third on the team in scoring with 12 points on 12 goals. She also leads the team in shots on goal with 21 (of 24 total shots), ground balls with 15, draw controls with 21 and caused turnovers with 11.

Kilburn has also gone a perfect 3-of-3 from the free position and has committed just six turnovers.

Currently, Kilburn ranks first in the NEWMAC in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. She is second among the conference's best in goals scored and shots on goal, while also sitting fourth overall in total shots.

The Lyons return to action on Tuesday (3/10) in a 4pm contest at Western New England University.
